Hey there!

I’m Izy (she/her) and I’m the owner of Rocky Floral! If I could describe myself in three words, it’d be:

collaborative, quirky, and empathetic.

If my friends could describe me in three words, it’s a toss up between “she loves flowers” and “she loves ducks.” Not wrong.

My obsession with flowers began in 2018 as a respite from an unfulfilling career; but as I got deeper into growing and arranging flowers for (arguably) the most important day in couple’s lives, I quickly realized I HAD to embrace this passion full time.

“Cookie cutter” isn’t in my design vocab; I take pride in collaborating with my clients to create totally personalized wedding flower experiences, emphasizing their unique style through design deep dives and bold, out-of-the-box arrangements.

My Core Values

I stand firmly by my values both in my life and in my business - and while these feel so obvious to me, in today’s world it doesn’t go without saying. So, here are my core values that I stand by without compromise.

Inclusivity

Every person, every life, every love story is deserving of dignity and respect. I don’t tolerate racism, xenophobia, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, bigotry, or any other -ism. I reject all forms of hate, and actively fight against it in my language, online presence, at the ballot box, and on the street. Rocky Floral is a safe space for ALL.

Sustainability

Sustainable floral design isn’t a trend; it’s the only way forward. Since the start of Rocky Floral, I have exclusively used sustainably grown flowers & eco-friendly design methods. I will never do business at the expense of the environment; more on my sustainability promise below (Where Farm & Design Meet)

Originality

We aren’t here to recreate the same designs of a past client, and we certainly aren’t here to copy the work of another floral designer in the field. Hell no! When you work with me, we’ll create designs tailored around you & yours; bold, unexpected, and original floral designs.

How it started

“I found my calling in the rocky soil of New England, and the idea for Rocky Floral was born”

I first discovered gardening in high school, when a friend’s mom asked if I wanted to help her pot up some plants for the patio. As she taught me how to transplant delicate roots I immediately felt a calmness and connection I knew I had been missing.

Fast forward to 2018, after a harsh New England winter, my partner Mike and I decided to join a community garden together. In the early months of the garden I found solace working in the dirt; it was a welcome break from a job that left me feeling empty.

Then, as the flowers eventually bloomed, those cosmos and zinnias and sunflowers… wow. I felt full again.

No other activity I had ever taken part in filled my heart and soul the way growing, harvesting, and arranging flowers had. When you know, you know: I found my calling in the rocky soil of New England, and the idea for Rocky Floral was born…

To this day, I maintain a 2-acre flower farm in Cheshire, Connecticut, where I grow both wholesale flowers for local florists and florals for my own weddings & events.

"An absolute dream working with the best folks to make the fresh-picked, random-not-random, wildflower bouquets. Izy at Rocky Floral is a revelation."

Where Farm & Design Meet

My flower farming practice informs my design work and vice versa; I’m always experimenting in both fields, growing new and unusual flower varieties, and finding inspiration in nature.

As both a designer AND farmer, there’s a deeper underlying foundation to my philosophy… Each year I witness the impacts of climate change, in my field, locally, and globally. I’ve internalized what this means for our future and the future of our planet, and I’m committed to doing my part in leaving the Earth a little better than I found it. That means:

  • zero pesticides are used on my flower farm
  • I never use flower foam and avoid single use plastics in floral design
  • Wedding flowers are composted after the event
  • Flowers are sourced locally (from 25 CT farms!) to reduce our carbon footprint

Embracing sustainability in every facet of my life and business is non-negotiable to me; and at this point, it’s second nature.
